Chapter 376: 374 Idol's Idol, The First Generation Legend

This flight was totally worth it, okay!

The only thing they wanted to do now was not to climb Mount Everest, but to buy ten more tickets, get back on the plane, and just fly back and forth for fun!

On the other side, just out of the cabin, Bi Fang saw a burly Caucasian man holding a sign with the words “Master Fang”.

Yao Jun took deep breaths of the fresh air and, seeing the display sign, explained, “It must be from the guide company, coming to take us over.”

Bi Fang nodded, went up to greet the man, and before he could even introduce himself, the Caucasian man enthusiastically welcomed him, “My goodness, I can hardly believe it—I’m actually going to guide the legendary GOD FANG.”

“You know me?”

“Of course, I’ve seen your show in Ugly Country, it was absolutely thrilling, your fight with the Brown Bear was so exhilarating! I’m Rob, your true fan and your team’s lead guide. The company showed me your profile and I was so amazed, I never thought they’d arrange for me to lead your team. Sorry, I’m just a bit too excited.”

Bi Fang raised an eyebrow, looked back at Yao Jun who seemed a bit embarrassed and without saying much, approached with a smile and shook Rob’s hand, “I’m glad to meet you too.”

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Rob got down to business.

“Although I know you’re eager to climb Mount Everest right now, I’m sorry to say it’s already late in the day, and since you’ve just arrived in Kathmandu, you’ll need to acclimatize, so I’ll take you to a hotel to rest tonight. Tomorrow I’ll take you to Everest Base Camp to meet up with the other team members, if that’s okay with Mr. Bi.”

“Wait, other team members?” Yao Jun, who had been listening to the arrangements, suddenly looked confused and, looking up at Rob, spoke somewhat angrily, “Didn’t I specify a private expedition? No one else! I paid extra for this!”

Rob waved his hands quickly, “I know, I know, but they had all booked before Mr. Yao arrived. Mr. Bi should be aware, there are only two windows each year for climbing Mount Everest, and there are particularly many climbers at this time. Subtracting the time needed for acclimatization, you have indeed arrived a bit late. There simply aren’t enough guides, but rest assured, they will only accompany you to Base Camp, after which my colleague will take over their group. From then on, I shall be responsible solely for guiding you, you can be assured of that.”

“That’s okay.”

With that, Bi Fang nodded his head, and Yao Jun didn’t say any more.

As Rob walked ahead to lead the way, he suddenly turned to Yao Jun and asked quietly, “How did you find this outfit? Are they reliable?”

I’ve indeed shot a show in Ugly Country, but I never dealt with Brown Bears!

The one who dealt with Brown Bears was Mugalen, I’ve only ever dealt with Black Bears. Clearly, this guy just glanced at a brief summary and got it all mixed up. He’s not really a fan of mine at all, and might not even have heard of me before this.

But Bi Fang wasn’t angry. With over seven billion people on Earth, he wasn’t some famous scientist changing the world. There was no need for everyone to know him. To the other man, he was just a generous customer and it was normal to exchange pleasantries.

“Totally reliable! Many climbers have used this company, they are utterly professional. Each guide has official certification. If you don’t believe me, you can ask him.”

“I believe you, but how much did you pay for the one-on-one service?”

“Let’s not talk about that, it wasn’t too expensive.”

“Come on, tell me.”

Yao Jun scratched his head, “Sixty-five thousand per person, including the guide. Originally our group was supposed to be eight people, I covered their shares too. I thought the others would just be refused, but they switched to a different guide instead.”

“Red Note?”

“Ugly Knife.”

“Hiss!” Bi Fang had never been to Mount Everest in his previous life and had never imagined that hiring a guide would be so expensive.

Sixty-five thousand Ugly Knives, even if an ordinary person saved without eating or drinking, it would take several years.

Wang Yongbo also counted on his fingers, shocked at the exorbitant cost.

But on second thought, it made sense. Although guides couldn’t take people directly to the summit, maxing out at eight thousand meters, the level of danger was still ridiculously high, carrying a tremendous risk—it was literally earning money at the risk of one’s life.

Moreover, after climbing once, it wasn’t possible to immediately lead another team; a significant period of rest was necessary. In one climbing season, managing to lead two teams would be quite an achievement.

Bi Fang then understood, “It seems they are all tycoons. Besides wanting to earn more money, they probably also find it hard to directly refuse, as it could easily offend people.”

In a commercial guiding company, money is the standard that measures everything.

“I’ll pay you back when we return.”

“No need, it’s less than three million,” Yao Jun waved his hand, “If you consider me a friend, don’t mention it. Talking about money hurts the relationship. There’s really no need.”

“Thank you.” Bi Fang lowered his head and thanked him sincerely.

Yao Jun, online alias Lord Mu, if it weren’t for this guy’s generosity, how could I have become so popular so quickly?

Scratching the back of his head, Yao Jun chuckled, “Eh, why be so formal, haha. My old man always thinks I’m wasteful with money. If he knew I spent it on you, he’d probably be thrilled.”

After settling into the hotel, Bi Fang immediately received a message from Jerret and others. After greeting Yao Jun and Wang Yongbo, he rushed to the prearranged meeting spot.

As soon as they met, before Bi Fang could ask about the photography team, Jerret put his arm around Bi Fang’s shoulder and whispered mysteriously, “I know you want my photography team, but don’t rush. I have something even more important and surprising waiting for you.”

“A surprise? What kind of surprise? Did you prepare a drone that can go up to eight thousand meters for me?”

Jerret rolled his eyes, somewhat speechless, “Eight thousand meters? Are you kidding? Let alone eight thousand, I haven’t even seen one that can reach five thousand! There’s someone who wants to meet you!”

“Someone who wants to meet me? Tell him to keep his distance, I don’t have time to meet anyone.” Bi Fang, thinking there really was some surprise, was greatly disappointed. Was it just some person wanting to meet me? Who could possibly be worth my time to meet, a celebrity?

“Hey, don’t regret it! I can assure you, if you knew who he is, you would want to meet him and beg me for the introduction!”

“What a joke, not even the Ugly Country President could make me beg you for a meeting. Is there something or not? If not, let’s quickly check the equipment, or I’m leaving.” Bi Fang, growing impatient, tugged at his ear and turned to leave.

When Jerret saw that Bi Fang was really about to leave, he could no longer play coy and immediately shouted, “It’s David Attenborough! He wants to meet you!”

Bi Fang abruptly stopped in his tracks, his eyes wide with disbelief as he turned to look back at Jerret, his mouth slowly dropping open in an almost fierce expression.

Jerret nodded in satisfaction and repeated, “David Attenborough, and not a namesake; he’s indeed the one you’re thinking of. He just happened to be passing through Kathmandu, and since I have his contact, seeing as we’re in the same industry—Discovery Channel also frequently films documentaries—I thought I’d meet an industry pioneer. But as soon as we met and he heard you were also here, he wanted to meet you.”

Bi Fang’s head swam, overwhelmed for a moment, before being overtaken by immense joy, nearly jumping on the spot.

If there was anyone in the world he admired, it was this elderly gentleman.

David Attenborough!

The author of works such as Planet Earth, Frozen Planet, Human Planet, The Life Story, Africa, Blue Planet, Hunting, and many more—the father of the world documentary!

One could even say that he was the predecessor to Bi Fang’s live streaming of nature, only not through live broadcasts, but through documentaries, turning nature into art as if painting!

In his past and current life, the father of the world documentary was Bi Fang’s idol, yes, his idol.

Apart from those documentaries that resemble works of art, David Attenborough is also considered the man with the longest travel distance in history, having explored almost every known ecological environment on Earth in person!

To spend a lifetime doing what one loves, to personally experience every corner of this world, to get to know every species, to deeply understand this lonely blue planet, to learn about her, understand her, love her, and protect her.

This is what Bi Fang had longed for!

After crossing over, Bi Fang once thought he might never see his idol again, until he later searched for documentaries online and discovered that this world had an almost identical person, with the same name, the same works, and the same experiences!

Could there be anything more blissful than that?

Now, his idol was going to meet him!

“Quick, quick, quick, take me there!”

Bi Fang, excited, grabbed Jerret’s sleeve and dragged him towards the street. Jerret stretched out his hand to stop him but found he couldn’t pull away. Bi Fang’s grip was like steel, pulling him against the current. Wherever they went, the crowd had to make way for them, and the two men were like solid boulders in a river.

Left with no choice, Jerret could only shout, “Wait, wait, you’re going the wrong way, it’s not here, it’s on the other side, hahaha, I knew it, you’d definitely beg me to take you!”

Suddenly realizing that he didn’t know the way himself, Bi Fang finally let go. Jerret didn’t dare delay any longer and hurriedly led Bi Fang toward their destination.

Through the crowd, Bi Fang also took out a drone from his backpack. Jerret, leading the way up front, saw it and was surprised, “Do you always carry a drone with you?”

“No, I was planning to shoot Kathmandu tonight, just as a warm-up for the live broadcast. I didn’t expect you to give me such a big surprise. I want to show my fans my idol! Let them see who their idol’s idol is!”

Jerret smacked his lips and shook his head. He thought Bi Fang might be interested in David Attenborough, but he never imagined he’d be this excited.

In the midst of conversation, Bi Fang quickly started the live stream. Many fans who came in at the beginning even heard Bi Fang say he was going to meet his idol.

The idol’s idol?

[Damn, Master Fang started the live early? I’m the first one!]

[Wolf Fang is slacking off more and more. There was no advance notice, just knew that there was going to be a live soon, but no specific time.]

[The idol’s idol? Who said Master Fang was my idol? He’s clearly my husband!]

[Pffft, shameless woman, if you’re so rich, why not buy a mirror? If you’re broke, just pee and look at yourself in it, and see if you’re worthy to get involved in the relationship between me and Master Fang.]

[Are they going to climb Mount Everest? Why does it feel like they’re on the street?]

[This looks so familiar, isn’t this Kathmandu? I think I’ve been here on vacation before, in Nepal. Is Old Fang really going to climb Mount Everest? Damn, that’s badass!]

[So, what exactly is Old Fang up to? Who is his idol anyway?]

“Hahaha, hello everyone, I’m Bi Fang. I’ll skip the opening remarks since I haven’t officially started the live stream yet. Today, I wanted to take you all on a quick tour of Nepal’s Capital, Kathmandu, but something unexpected happened. My idol showed up, and he wants to meet me!”

Bi Fang followed closely behind Jerret while sending his drone soaring high, and suddenly, the audience got a view of historical Kathmandu, filled with a sense of history.

As introduced before, this ancient historical city is brimming with a feeling of vicissitudes; sometimes, you might find yourself staring at a wall and, before you know it, tears may fall.

[If Master Fang replies to me, I’ll go tear apart a Great White Shark with my bare hands, count grains of sand in the desert, put rings on ants, and install an elevator on Mount Everest.]

Bi Fang raised his eyebrows and laughed, “This netizen who calls himself ‘Really Handsome’, I saw your comment. Please hurry up and install that elevator so that I don’t have to go through the hard struggle of climbing it.”

Ah, this.

Thousands of kilometers away, a viewer named pp was instantly stupefied. He had just made a joke; with hundreds of messages flooding in every minute, how could his be seen? But, to his astonishment, Master Fang had actually responded to him.

“Haha, just kidding, I’ll keep you guessing a little longer about who my idol is. Feel free to make your guesses.” Bi Fang teased, then turned the camera to Jerret, “I don’t know if you remember Jerret. Do you recall the last program on the Discovery Channel? Whether it was about the ocean or a multiplayer survival show, the man behind it was this guy, a gold-medal producer for the Discovery Channel!”

Jerret cooperated by greeting the audience, even saying hello in Chinese, since nobody would complain about having high viewership.

“This time I’ve specifically invited Jerret to help me bring you a better live broadcast. Tomorrow, I’ll be climbing Mount Everest with the film crew, the always number one on the leaderboard, Lord Mu, and my ‘immediate superior’ Vice President Wang. Of course, the latter two are just tagging along for fun, so don’t take it seriously. I doubt they can endure even three thousand meters.”

“Taking the guides into account, there will be about eight of us in total. The best group size for climbing Mount Everest is a seven-person team, but sometimes it can be eight. That’s a reasonable configuration for ascending Everest. Any more becomes cumbersome and the climb becomes very dangerous.”

Dangerous?

What dangers? The guides can’t take care of everyone?

The audience raised timely questions.

“It’s not that the guides can’t take care of everyone, but because there are many places on Everest that are difficult to pass, and each additional person will waste more time. Everest has many crevasses and nearly vertical cliffs. To get through, you can only use long ladders or ropes, connecting a path between two rocks, allowing climbers to pass one by one.

Each person passing can take a few minutes at the least, and up to ten minutes or even half an hour at most. Counting all the crevasses big and small, an extra person might mean several more hours.

The weather on Everest is unpredictable, and those few hours could lead to an accident, endangering the whole team.

Don’t think it’s incredible, it’s true. In high-altitude areas, even with oxygen tanks, normal people would find their movements sluggish, have difficulty breathing, and even experience reduced cognitive function due to the low pressure and extreme cold.”

[In slow motion, how slow? Slower than in snow? (Funny)]

[Sword~~~~ come~~~~~!]

Bi Fang smiled. Just then, Jerret, who had been leading the way, suddenly stopped and pointed ahead, “Here we are, he’s inside.”

Through the floor-to-ceiling windows reflecting the starlight,

in the coffee shop, an old man sitting by the window was smiling and waving at Bi Fang.
