To the Love of My Life

Chapter 41 - 41: No Choice But to Endure (5)

The air in the car was filled with a flirtatiously ambiguous atmosphere.

With every breath Ruby took, she could smell this scent, constantly reminding her of the humiliation she had just endured. She couldn’t bear to stay in the car for even a moment longer.

Regardless of how uncomfortable she felt, she managed to endure and slowly straightened her clothes. Then, after glancing at Steve, she pushed the door open, lowered her head, and hurriedly got out of the car.

Steve thought he would see grievance and tears in Ruby’s eyes, but her eyes were as dark and clear as ever, without even a hint of dampness.

A familiar sense of defeat welled up within him as he watched her through the car window, her steps slightly frantic as she headed towards her home. Perhaps he had been too rough with her earlier, causing her pain as she walked with a slight limp.

Ruby’s figure disappeared into the Gregorys’ compound for a long time before Steve finally shifted his gaze and slowly looked towards the car seat where Ruby had been sitting.

He couldn’t bear to let her go, but if he held onto her like this and married her, he feared she would have distanced herself from him as much as possible by now, not investing as much effort and thought into him as she currently did.

Ruby didn’t dare let the Gregory household see her in such a disheveled state. She entered the house through the back door, went directly to her room on the second floor, and returned to her bedroom.

Once in the room, she took a shower first, as if only then could she wash away the humiliation he had inflicted on her.

After her shower and standing in front of the cheval mirror in her bedroom, Ruby saw the numerous scars on her body and her eyes grew dim.

On her neck, the purplish bruise from the bite she had given him last time at the holiday villa in Red Park still hadn’t faded. The nail-scratched palm of her hand ached deeply.

Ruby lowered her gaze, quickly put on her pajamas, and climbed directly into bed. Wrapped tightly in her blanket, she felt exhausted but couldn’t sleep.

As her mind swirled with confusion, her phone suddenly rang..
