What It's Like Being a Vampire

Chapter 400: 400: Staking Out

Even though she wanted to go home right away to experience “Emotional Assimilation”, as soon as Xia Libing heard Xiang Kun’s words, she didn’t express any questions, but followed his instructions and immediately made a U-turn at the dotted line up ahead.

Taking out his phone from the passenger seat, Xiang Kun dialed up the map APP to observe the surroundings nearby and said to Old Xia, “Turn right at the second intersection up ahead, and then go straight.”

He then explained, “When we brought up Divine Technology, I sensed the ‘Super-connected Objects’ paper left at Mijoe’s place and realized she is nearby. We should go over and see what they are doing in Citong to get some basic information. This will also help us provide deeper guidance in ‘Dream in A Dream’ later tonight, instructing us on what questions to ask.”

Given the recently emerged “parasitic theory” and the plan to direct and guide “Divine Technology” based on this theory, it was natural for him to tap into Mijoe, who had access to the secretive ‘Divine Technology’, had a relatively better understanding of its operations, and had ‘Super-connected Objects’ and ‘Emotion Infused Objects’ with her, as the primary point of entry.

However, unexpectedly, after about five minutes, when Xia Libing identified the GL8 carrying Mijoe, which she had spotted at the airport picking up Zhou Rui, two police cars pulled it over from the front and back.

Not only that, Xiang Kun also noticed a following Corolla, without any police identification, not far behind. When the GL8 was stopped by the police, the Corolla also came to a halt.

Xiang Kun asked Old Xia to drop him off somewhere up ahead, and lowered his head to look at his phone, while observing the police-blocked GL8 and the Corolla behind it.

After the Corolla stopped, two young men stepped out from the backseat. And one of them was Officer Xiao Zhao Zhaofeng who had dealt with the case in which he and Old Xia had beaten up two thugs. This was also the same case in which Xiang Kun and Old Xia had secretly alerted the police via ‘Dream in A Dream’.

Xiang Kun, still in his duckbill cap and without spectacles that he had worn when he travelled to Yangcheng, could be easily identified by anyone unfamiliar with him.

He stood not far from a bus stop, using the bus stop sign as a camouflage, watched and eavesdropped on their conversation using peripheral vision.

After Officer Xiao Zhao and his mate got down from the vehicle, it directly drove away. According to Xiang Kun’s observation, they probably didn’t know the driver, possibly having called for a ride-hailing car.

Officer Zhao Feng walked directly to the side of the police car that had blocked the GL8 and started conversing with the policeman who had alighted from the vehicle.

From their conversation, it appeared that the police who stopped the GL8 were called by Officer Xiao Zhao and the target of their operation was Chen Tianhua, that is, Mijoe.

What’s going on?

Did Mijoe and her “Divine Technology” team commit a crime in Citong City, or were they implicated in the unresolved issues of the Guo Tianxiang case?

If it’s the latter, why is the arrest being led by Officer Xiao Zhao?

And why did he and his comrade follow in a ride-hailing car?

On the other side, the four individuals in the GL8, after the policemen had confirmed their identities, cooperated fully both in words and actions. Mijoe was taken out of the car and made to sit in the backseat of the police car up ahead, while the other three remained in the GL8, with two officers joining them.

To avoid causing a traffic jam, the cars soon moved on. Officer Xiao Zhao and his mate also joined one of the police cars.

Xiang Kun called Old Xia and boarded the Camry at an intersection up ahead which had made a roundabout and was heading back.

As soon as he got into the car, he immediately instructed Old Xia on which route to take. Even though they couldn’t see the police cars and the GL8 up ahead, they could locate the position using the ‘Super-connected Objects’ paper, and judging by the normal deduction, they should be heading to the police station, hence there was no fear of losing them.

After telling Old Xia the direction to drive in, Xiang Kun gave a brief account of the information he had overheard and observed earlier.

After listening to Xiang Kun’s summary of the situation, Xia Libing asked, “Do you want to see how ‘Divine Technology’ handles this?”

“Yeah, and if Mijoe is taken away by the police this time, especially if it’s related to the Guo Tianxiang case, we can use this incident to judge the progress of the police investigation into the Guo Tianxiang case,” answered Xiang Kun.

Before long, Xia Libing pulled the Camry up across the street from the front door of the substation, outside a convenient store.

Xiang Kun bought a box of ice cream and a bottle of mineral water, and then squatted on the side of the road with Old Xia, softly chatting while paying attention to the situation at the substation entrance.

Of course, the ice cream was for Old Xia. He was just drinking water.

“Do you want to go in and listen?” Xia Libing asked quietly.

“No, I can listen from here.” Xiang Kun shook his head. With his super hearing, even while squatting here, he could still hear the conversations inside most parts of the substation. Especially with the ‘Super-connected Objects”s positioning, he could accurately discern the sounds and quickly locate the source.

However, if Mijoe was brought into the interrogation room and the door was closed, then there would be nothing he could do. Even if he managed to sneak into the substation lobby, he wouldn’t be able to hear anything as the interrogation room was well soundproofed. So, there’s no need to risk attracting attention by breaking into it.

Furthermore, he could get specific details of their interrogation later by directly visiting the two parties involved – Officer Xiao Zhao and Mijoe through ‘Dream in A Dream’ with Old Xia.

“So, you are waiting for the person ‘Divine Technology’ sends?” Old Xia immediately guessed Xiang Kun’s objective.

“Yeah,” Xiang Kun nodded but frowned immediately because he sensed that the ‘Super-connected Object’ paper at Mijoe’s was moving out of the substation.

The next moment, Xiang Kun and Old Xia, who were squatting on the roadside, simultaneously saw the GL8 leaving the substation and speeding off.

They let them go already? Didn’t see anyone coming over… did they just make a call?

Xiang Kun wondered while he closed his eyes to enter the ‘Super Sensory State’, arriving at Mijoe’s location via ‘Black circle graffiti’, and using the cognitive information he sensed and the position of the ‘Super-connected Objects’ paper to determine that he was currently on the GL8.

But judging from the surrounding cognitive information, there were only three people in the car, and he couldn’t find any cognitive information from Mijoe.

That is to say, Mijoe is still held in the substation, her three teammates, or rather colleagues, just left directly with her belongings?

Plastic colleague sentiment?

Was Mijoe abandoned?

Xiang Kun immediately dismissed this guess. From his previous observation of Mijoe, Fang Pingfang and their team, he roughly knew that Mijoe had the most information about the ‘mutant’ among the entire team, and she can also contact ‘Mr. Liang’, the assistant with the surname Gao, who was there specifically for her protection. He probably held an even more important position than Fang Pingfang. So, it is impossible that Mijoe was simply ‘abandoned’.

Moreover, considering the modus operandi of ‘Divine Technology’ so far, since they had arranged for Mijoe to take on the identity of Chen Tianhua, there had to be an emergency plan set in place in case she was discovered by the police.

After thinking for a bit, Xiang Kun looked back, and Old Xia, squatting by his side, was also looking at him while eating ice cream.

“Let’s go back. There’s no need to squat and watch. We’ll directly ask them in the dream,” said Xiang Kun as he got up to walk towards the Camry.

Xia Libing glanced at the remaining ice cream, quickly ate it up in a few bites.

However, because the ice cream was too cold, she felt a pang of a headache. She squinted and wrinkled her brows, standing still for two seconds before tossing the ice cream box into the trash bin. Then rubbing her forehead, she opened the door to the driver’s seat.
