What It's Like Being a Vampire

Chapter 368: The Name of the Pet

Xiang Kun excused himself from Old Xia and went ahead to play the three voice messages sent by Liu Shiling.

“Uncle Bald!”

“Roast chicken wing sis!”

“Are you there, are you there?”

Xiang Kun replied with a voice message, smiling: “I am here. Your Roast chicken wing sis went to Citong City. Didn’t you already add her on QQ?”

A few seconds passed, and Liu Shiling sent over a video call request.

After the video call connected, Xiang Kun first saw a large cat nose on the screen. Then, Little Fatty Girl pushed away the cat’s head with her hand to reveal her face.

“Uncle Bald, the eight-armed monster I created with ‘chocolate’ and ‘ice cream’ that night was your pet. It was photographed! But… But my mom said it looked like a crab!”

Liu Shiling relayed what she had overheard in the elevator on the way back with her mother and the details about the photo to Xiang Kun.

Upon hearing that the photo was incredibly blurry and that those who had seen the photo couldn’t quite make out what it was, along with the fact that most people were skeptical about it, Xiang Kun wasn’t overly concerned. He would ask Alice to help check if the photo and live stream by Mr. Li had caused any significant impact. After that, they’ll see if there is a need to mitigate these effects.

However, he was not too worried about Little Fatty Girl being implicated. As long as the two coins controlled by Little Fatty Girl could not be traced back to her, she should be safe.

Of course, Xiang Kun still advised Little Fatty Girl to keep a low profile and be cautious when using her “magic,” so others would not find out about her secret.

But his words were very gentle and euphemistic, as he understood that Little Fatty Girl was already very obedient and well-behaved. Even if it were him who had gained such unique power at her age, it would be challenging to resist showing off. In comparison, Little Fatty Girl only used her abilities to play house alone, revealing her powers outdoors only during emergencies, in unconscious reactions, or when “trying out” her power. She was very mature, obedient, and discreet.

Little Fatty Girl did not show any dissatisfaction with Xiang Kun’s caution. She nodded earnestly, her face full of determination.

After giving his instructions, Liu Shiling “reported” her new ideas for improving the structure of the “eight-armed pet” using scraps of paper to Xiang Kun.

Any “evolution” or “expansion” of Little Fatty Girl’s abilities can be sensed by Xiang Kun, enabling him to reproduce them immediately unless he is in deep sleep.

From two weeks ago, when Xiang Kun experienced his first blood-drinking deep sleep, Liu Shiling’s capabilities began to enhance rapidly, especially in using “super-connected objects” to control and influence electromagnetism. Xiang Kun felt like he was witnessing the birth of a young girl version of “Magneto.”

“Uncle Bald, can I see your pot pet again?” Liu Shiling suddenly asked.

Xiang Kun paused, realising she was asking about the emotional projection of the “Eight-armed, Eight-eyed Wood Carving.” He couldn’t help but want to laugh. Of all the people who had seen the emotional projection of the “Eight-armed, Eight-eyed Wood Carving,” it seemed only Little Fatty Girl and Old Xia were willing to see it a second time.

However, this was probably because Little Fatty Girl first saw the emotional projection of the eight-armed, eight-eyed wood carving while merging her dream with Old Xia. This is why all the fear was shouldered by Old Xia, and she only saw the projection. Thinking it was Xiang Kun’s pet, this emboldened her and probably made it feel powerful and impressive rather than scary.

“For the time being, it can only be seen in dreams,” Xiang Kun said. Even if he could create illusions through emotional projection, it was impossible to let Little Fatty Girl see them. This girl is actually very timid. The effect of fear on her emotions was unknown, but it was expected to be significant.

Liu Shiling cocked her head in thought, and asked again, “So… Uncle Bald, what’s your pet’s name?”

“I haven’t named it yet,” Xiang Kun replied. Realizing that Little Fatty Girl, must be asking about the Eight-armed, Eight-eyed Wood Carving’s name for her pretend-play to enhance her imaginative involvement, he said, “I’ll let you name it. Whatever you call it, that will be its name.”

“Ah?” Liu Shiling looked upwards, thinking for half a minute. With an excited expression, she said to Xiang Kun: “I’ve thought of a name, ‘Barbie Super Doll’!” Then she frowned, scratched her head and changed her mind, “Hmm, or ‘Big-eyed Barbie’… no, ‘Barbie Warrior Doll’… no, uh, ‘Barbie Warrior’! Yes, let’s call it ‘Barbie Warrior’!”

Xiang Kun was first confused. He thought that in keeping with Little Fatty Girl’s usual naming habits, she would name the Eight-armed, Eight-eyed Wood Carving something like “French Fries”, “Coca-Cola”, or “McFlurry”.

But he quickly realized that this was a pun on “eight arms”! ‘Barbie Warrior’? He wondered what the people who had been frightened into psychological trauma by the emotional projection of the Eight-armed, Eight-eyed Wood Carving in their dreams or reality would think if they learned this terrifying creature had such a name.

“Sure, what you say goes. From now on, let’s call it ‘Barbie Warrior’,” Xiang Kun promised the delighted Little Fatty Girl with a smile.

Liu Shiling then said: “Uncle Bald, I want to learn to draw. Can you teach me? I believe if my drawing improves, a lot of magic will become stronger too. It will look more impressive!”

As she spoke, she held up the picture that Da Lu had given her in front of the tablet’s camera, saying, “If only I could draw like Da Lu. I could make my ‘Chocolate’ and ‘Ice Cream-made Barbie Warrior’ look more impressive and stronger!”

“Drawing, huh?” Xiang Kun stroked his chin. He accurately captured the key word in Little Fatty Girl’s words — “impressive”. He speculated that she wanted to study drawing to enhance her ability to construct basic objects, making them seem more cohesive and “impressive”.

He thought for a while and said: “I’m not really great at drawing, so I can’t teach you. But I can send you some drawing tutorial videos to follow. I will also introduce you to a lady who is great at drawing. You can ask her for tips.”

He knew Tang Baona also liked drawing and often drew characters from her favourite animations. Although she wasn’t a professional and didn’t have many works—just a few posted occasionally on her Weibo—she was certainly more than capable of guiding Little Fatty Girl through the basics.

Previously, Tang Baona and Yang Zhen Er, while in Tongshi Town, had seen Little Fatty Girl’s coin-flipping video online. Recognizing her as the adorable little girl who used to live next door in 706 at Xiang Kun’s House, they always wanted to meet her.

Seeing that Uncle Bald had readily solved her drawing problem, Little Fatty Girl was overjoyed. Then, she glanced back at the closed room door, moved her head closer to the front camera, couldn’t help but lower her voice and ask again, “Uncle Bald, when can I go monster hunting with you?”

Xiang Kun was going to instinctively reply “when you’re grown up”, but he immediately realized that the current Little Fatty Girl considered herself a “Great Wizard” with a lot of responsibility. The “magic system” she constructed was deeply embedded in his “super sensor item system”. She was now a bona fide “Great Wizard” and “Superhuman”. So, simply setting the goal as “when you’re grown-up” was no longer suitable. It might make her lose direction.

So, after a faint pause, Xiang Kun asked her several questions related to aerodynamics, electromagnetism, quantum physics, even reciting formulas directly. Then he told her that once she understood these, she would be ready to go monster-hunting with “Uncle Bald”!

As expected, Liu Shiling’s face was blank, her eyes round with confusion. She didn’t understand at all. It felt as though “Uncle Bald” was reciting some profound spell. After listening for a few minutes, she could barely remember a single sentence, let alone understand the questions.

After saying all this, Xiang Kun paused, then said to Liu Shiling, “Xiao Lingdang, I will send you a few more Magic Coins!”

Liu Shiling immediately brightened up and said earnestly, fist clenched tightly, “Thank you, Uncle Bald! I will work hard! You can count on me to become super strong!”

For her, Xiang Kun’s “Magic Coins” were more than just coins, they were the most precious, magical, and powerful treasures in the world—more of them was the greatest gift and reward to her.
