American Tax Officer

Chapter 115: Chapter 98: The Congressman Steps In_3

If the National Tax Bureau couldn\'t exploit the situation, then at worst we\'d pay the taxes due, along with a certain amount of compensation, and the National Tax Bureau might just let bygones be bygones.

By then, Dieter might be able to downplay the major issue into a minor one, or dissolve it altogether.

"Chieftain, after the event was exposed, I sent people to shut the assassin\'s mouth, but the tax bureau\'s people are too cunning. They moved him somewhere else..."

Virginia stood out, trembling as he spoke.

Upon hearing this, whether it was Gael or the other Native Americans, their faces all darkened.

Fortunately, Virginia added, "However, the assassin\'s wife and child are currently under my control. I think with such a threat, the assassin won\'t spill anything to the National Tax Bureau!"

Knowing they had hostages, the Native Americans at the scene finally took a breath of relief.

Then Gael said, "Where are his wife and child now? Bring them to our tribe immediately!"

In the reservation, no law enforcement has jurisdiction; only by bringing the assassin\'s family there could he feel at ease.

"I will have my men transfer them right away!"

Virginia immediately took out his phone, and the call was quickly connected. He said, "Villard, bring the people to the tribe!"

"Mr. Virginia, I\'m afraid I can\'t do that!"

Hearing the unfamiliar voice coming from the other end of the phone, Virginia was stunned.

It was only after quite a while that he regained his senses and demanded, "Who are you? Where is Villard?"

"Inspector Bucky from the National Tax Bureau Lakeside District Sub-Bureau Branch!"

"National Tax Bureau..."

Virginia\'s eyes widened like copper bells in disbelief, then he quickly hung up the phone and said to the people present with a dejected face, "The people have been \'snatched\' by the National Tax Bureau..."

"Damn it..."

"..."

The Native Americans on-site immediately erupted in curses.

After a short pause, Gael turned to Angstorm and said, "Senator Angstorm, it\'s all up to you now!"

"Chief Gael, I can\'t make any promises, but I can only do my best!" only-found-at-MVLeMpYr

Angstorm was very annoyed, but he still didn\'t dare to refuse. After saying this, he walked straight out.

Once outside, he got into his own car and took out his phone to dial a number: "Gray, there\'s something that you need to show your face for..."

...

In David\'s office at the Lake District National Tax Bureau Sub-Bureau Branch.

Bucky walked in and reported, "As expected of the CIA\'s intelligence network, I\'ve managed to save the person!"

David nodded in satisfaction and asked, "Everything is settled, right?"

Arranged in a totally secure place!"

David grew interested: "Totally secure? How secure?"

"The CIA\'s safe house, how about that for security!"

Hearing this answer, David was also taken aback, not expecting Bucky to arrange for the person to be taken there.

However, on second thought.

CIA safe houses are mostly designed to withstand terrorist attacks, or the infiltration of enemy agents.

Although Dieter\'s gang had some influence, in the end, they were just a crime ring, and breaking into a CIA safe house would be virtually impossible.

"Was it at your request or did they arrange it voluntarily?"

David felt that just having leverage over the CIA was probably already causing them discomfort, and asking them to arrange a safe house might be pushing it too far.

"Don\'t worry, they volunteered to help, and they even said they were very happy to do us this favor!"

Reassured by this, David then replied, "Then give them a call back and tell them I appreciate the help they\'ve provided!"

"Understood!"

While the two were conversing on this side.

Outside the National Tax Bureau, a black Cadillac stopped at the entrance.

The car door opened, and a man around 40 in a suit got out. He was Las Vegas\'s Deputy Mayor, Gray Ivorson.

Given the arrival of the deputy mayor, Chief William in his fourth-floor office was soon informed.

After pondering for a while, he replied to the receptionist on the phone, "Have him come up to my office!"

A few minutes later.

There was a knock at the door, and upon hearing "come in," Gray pushed the door and entered. Looking at William, he said with a smile, "Chief William, long time no see, how have you been lately?"

"All good, I just don\'t know what wind blew you, Deputy Mayor Gray, to our Lake District National Tax Bureau today of all days?"

Gray took a seat and said, "Nothing much, the Lake District is under my jurisdiction, right? I heard that your bureau has been closing down several nightclubs these past few days, and a lot of unemployed workers have complained to our city hall. I thought I\'d come and understand the situation."

"I see..."

William pondered for a moment and replied, "As you know, our National Tax Congress passed a tough tax law on the 3rd of last month and we\'re now actively enforcing it."

"The owners of the clubs you mentioned have been warned explicitly by us more than once. Not only did they refuse to pay taxes, but they even dared to openly attack our Chief Tax Officer, which is a heinous crime, and they must be severely punished!"

William knew that the Deputy Mayor Gray in front of him was likely sent by someone to advocate on their behalf.

So he didn\'t beat around the bush and laid out his stance right away.
