The Birth Of A Villainess

Chapter 144 - Rising Out The Storm (3)

Finding a place to hide was easy. She could hide behind a tree or some tall bushes. She could even run away from that place where she left the body while the other tried to guess what happened to him.

However, looking for the perfect place to hide was harder especially when you have little time to hide and look for that perfect spot. But Lin Xiaofei didn\'t have a choice now that the other assassin was starting to realize that his fellow assassin was later than he expected.

Without further ado, Lin Xiaofei lifted her skirt up and rolled her sleeves before starting to climb a tree in front of the spot where she left the dead man. She planned to hide a step closer to the live assassin and hope that he wouldn\'t suspect that she hid right behind the corpse and would only focus on searching ahead and deeper into the forest.

The first and second attempt she did to climb the tree was not easy. Her skin scratched against the rough and harsh bark of the tree, and it was harder for her to climb with her heavy clothes but she was determined to climb even if it means her limbs growing numb for as long as she could hide from the other assassin.

She instantly and silently breathed a sigh of relief when she finally got to reach a thick branch and made another effort to stand upon it before the assassin finally reached the spot where a dead body lay.

Lin Xiaofei didn\'t know whether she should be relieved that she finally got to hide in time before the assassin got to where she was earlier or worry about the fact that he could easily look up and behind him for him to see her standing on one of the branches, looking down on him with her bloodied dagger still in her hand.

\'Go. Just go away and search somewhere else.\' Lin Xiaofei internally chanted.

As much as she wanted to kill the other assassin, Lin Xiaofei knew her limits. The limits of her new body. If it were her original body, she could take the other assassin down after a few minutes of struggle to the death. But with her current situation, she cannot gamble with her life and engage in a fight she knew she wouldn\'t win.

The first assassin was mere luck. He was too focused on trying to do his business that he couldn\'t be bothered with his surroundings. Probably, he thought that no one would dare come here to stop him with the horse riding display his men did earlier. And because of that, it cost him his life and his precious treasure.

Lin Xiaofei was still not adept with moving her body according to the skills she knew when up against someone twice her size but she was indeed lucky to bring him down by catching him off guard and cutting him off before he could do the same to her.

"Sh*t! Lu Ming!" The other assassin called out in shock as he saw his fellow assassin on his stomach.

The blood on Lu Ming\'s body was not that visible since it was dark and it might have sipped into the ground underneath him but Bo Qian knew that his friend was no longer breathing.

Of course, Bo Qian didn\'t have time to mourn for the loss of his friend nor did he have the compassion to do that after taking this kind of profession. Hence, just after he called out in shock, his body immediately went from shock to alert.

The cold aura oozing out from his body was intense that if a normal person were to be present in front of him, they would be sweating buckets already and Lin Xiaofei wasn\'t confident to fight him.

Thinking about it again, Lin Xiaofei wasn\'t even sure how these men got in the residence. They\'re currently wearing a servant\'s clothes but Qu Xing Xu and his men would undoubtedly take extra care when taking in new servants so it was impossible for them to get in.

Besides, they wouldn\'t even dream of taking their horses and riding it around the residence without care and especially, to pursue someone. To pursue her.

And what\'s with this place anyway? Since earlier, she didn\'t sense anyone following her and no one was around to stop them. Qu Xing Xu and Gu Yan would surely post some men around this place. But there was no one at all.

What was really happening?

And what place did she actually step into?

She clearly saw the hesitation in the faces of the few of her pursuers but that was because of the pond. They looked like they recognized it and was unsure to venture beyond it until the others urged them to continue aside from the other two assassins who stayed behind.

Lin Xiaofei\'s eyes followed the movements of the assassin and breathed shortly and silently. She cannot risk discovery because of her loud breathing that was easily heard within this deadly silence in the middle of the night and in the forest.

The assassin passed by her tree and walked a few steps forward. Luckily for her, a sound was heard from somewhere and pulled the man towards that direction. He probably squinted to see in the dark and under the shadows of the trees.

Only when he finally walked deeper into the forest, leaving his fallen companion and her tree, did Lin Xiaofei finally sucked a good amount of air to breathe. But it didn\'t take long for her to get tensed once again.

Just behind her, she heard a movement. A whisper perhaps but that didn\'t matter as she whipped around to look only to have a large hand clasped over her mouth.

Then, she felt a warm breath hitting her hair and cheeks. "Shh."

She tried to struggle but the person\'s hold around her was tight and strong like a viper\'s hold.

"Don\'t make a lot of movement. He\'ll come back once he sees there\'s nothing there." The person said and finally, Lin Xiaofei didn\'t struggle and relaxed in his hold instead.

Seeing that she wasn\'t struggling anymore, Qu Xing Xu finally let his hand that was on her mouth down.
